The Government of the Republic maintains vigilance in the companies that sell propane gas, in order to guarantee a quality service and the authorized price.
In the task participates the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM), which last December carried out 134 inspections, of which 51 were in packing plants and other 84 in distributors, in the 22 departments of the country.

The objective of the operations, which have increased and will continue in the coming days, is to verify that the Law of Temporary Social Support for Propane Gas Consumers.
Since last December 1, the prices of the input were set in accordance with the provisions of the subsidy granted by the Government to support the family economy.

From that account, the cost, according to the presentation of the product, was established at Q49 for the 10-pound drum; Q98, for the 20; Q122, for the 25, and Q171, for the 35.
Through its various social networks, the MEM explains the importance of consumers demanding an invoice when they buy the aforementioned fuel. The packaging and distribution companies are obliged to issue the document, as this is the mechanism that will allow to know if the support actually reached the final consumer.
Decree 15-2021, Law of Temporary Support for Propane Gas Consumers, and its regulations, establishes that the subsidy granted by the Government amounts to Q150 million. The objective is to reduce costs in the face of the international rise of the aforementioned input.
Constant supervision
The Directorate of Attention and Assistance to the Consumer (Diaco), of the Ministry of Economy, also keeps visiting businesses that sell fuel, to ensure compliance with the standard. The sanctions for those who disrespect it can reach up to Q30 000.
The person in charge of Diaco, Mayra Soto, urged the population to report any irregularity in propane gas prices or refusal to bill. For this purpose, the telephone number 1544 and the website www.diaco.gob.gt are active. Complaints can also be filed at the 23 offices of the entity at the national level.
