In a new Q&A session with developers Alkimia Interactive, studio head Reinhard Pollis, composer Kai Rosenkrantz and community manager Timur Khodyrev talked about various aspects of the game, from its length to the changes they made to some of systems and lines of inquiry.
- The game world is not locked to the player, but some things can be found behind a creature that is almost impossible to defeat at first. Or maybe there’s a closed gate, but when you find a transformation spell you can turn into a little beast to go through tunnels and move places
- You can create your own weapons, and if you find more recipes for better weapons and better materials, you can go back to the blacksmith and create larger weapons that look a little better and strong
- Quests can be completed in any order. Some quests advance the main story, of course, but there are also side quests that affect it. The player can choose what he wants to do and what is important to him.
- The highest level in Gothic Remake is 50.
- While the original 2001 game could take 20 hours to complete, the remake can take up to 30 hours by expanding the main story and allowing you to complete side quests in the chapters after that. The main idea is to encourage players more than once so they can see different results and experience a different fighting style.
- Since the Gothic remake is being developed in Unreal Engine 5, both Lumen and Nanite will be used
- The developers will add options like pushing the camera to the left or center of the screen.
- There are more side quests and ways to do things, but the main quest is still the same, meaning you have to take over the cult’s camp.
- The remake will feature more guild specific quests. The developers want to expand the game in different directions, they want to give players more detailed information about the guilds, their goals and purposes.
- Gothic Remake has a very complex reaction system, and the developers intend to make different reactions depending on the progress of the story, missions, recent events in the world, or just the role of the characters involved there
- Access to magic will open earlier.
- The remake will have some difficulty options, including boosts, but not New Game+.
- NPCs can use magic.
- The development system will be almost the same as the original game. You earn experience by completing tasks and defeating enemies. You can only learn things from teachers, meaning there are no skill trees like in many other RPG games. Therefore, you first need to find a teacher who is an expert in a particular field. There is a 3-level progression system for one-handed, two-handed and ranged weapons, as was the case in Gothic 1 (not in Gothic 2).
- There are several new skills you can learn, such as free climbing or diving. In the latter case, you can learn to stay underwater longer.
- Gothic 1 Remake will feature ray tracing technology. The developers did not say what frame generation technologies and enhancements they would add, but they said that they would definitely be supported.
- Consoles will have quality and performance modes.
- The game will definitely get some improvements on PS5 Pro.
