“The Devastating Health Consequences of Long-Term Alcohol Consumption”

Long-term and excessive alcohol consumption can have numerous pathological health consequences.

Therapist Tamara Ilyinskaya spoke in an interview with MedikForum about the negative changes in the body that occur due to the frequent use of alcohol.

Decreased intelligence. Alcohol abuse leads to the fact that nerve cells die, and brain tissue shrinks – this directly affects the decrease in memory and the ability to concentrate, and in the long term – the deterioration of intelligence.

The face looks puffy. If you periodically drink a lot of alcohol, the skin of the face over the years will look more and more loose and swollen.

The risk of cancer increases. Drinking increases the risk of getting cancer in the mouth and throat, as well as cancer of the esophagus, the doctor says. This risk increases many times over if a person additionally smokes.

Weakened heart. According to the therapist Ilinskaya, common consequences of alcohol abuse are high blood pressure and the development of hypertension, arrhythmia, and inflammation of the heart muscle.

The liver is inflamed. The liver is involved in the process of breaking down almost every drop of alcohol – it’s hard work. Frequent alcohol consumption contributes to its swelling, inflammation, obesity, and cirrhosis of the liver.

Peripheral nerves are damaged. Due to excessive alcohol consumption, hand tremors and painful areas on the body occur.

The pancreas is affected. The pancreas against the background of drunkenness violates its function, resulting in poor digestion of fats. In this case, painful inflammation is possible.

Digestion worsens. With regular alcohol consumption, the transport and absorption of nutrients in the intestines is disrupted, as a result of which the body ceases to be adequately supplied with vital nutrients. This negatively affects the immune system.

Earlier, the portal MedikForum.ru wrote about the non-obvious causes of headaches.
