Deutzer fair: That’s why the Easter fair is shorter than usual
The Deutz Easter Fair 2023 will therefore take place on significantly fewer days than before. The reason: The city has set new requirements for the fair. This means that the Deutz fair is only approved for 18 days in spring and autumn – in total. Most recently it was 26 days. A press spokeswoman told 24RHEIN that this was a “reaction to massive complaints from citizens” and to the results of the noise report prepared by the district government last year.
But the showmen of the Cologne Showmen Community (GKS) have started a petition against the restrictions. Within a few days, the Online-Petition already thousands of signatures. “The fair belongs to Kölle just like the cathedral,” says the comments, among other things.
Deutz fair at Easter 2023: fireworks and family day canceled
Not only the opening hours of the Easter fair were shortened. The fireworks and the popular family day, where the rides are only half price, have also been cancelled. Due to official requirements, both have to be canceled, says Alexander Gillgen from the Cologne showmen community (GKS) when asked by 24RHEIN. The showmen simply cannot afford both the fireworks and the discount day. “We are sorry from the bottom of our hearts, but there is no other way,” continues Gillgen.
