Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen arrived this Sunday at the head of the first round of the presidential election in France. Among the big losers of this election, we find the candidate of the Socialist Party who won only 1.75% of the vote and ranked in tenth place (out of twelve) in the first round. In comparison, in 2017 the candidate of the Socialist Party, Benoît Hamon, obtained 6.36%.
It also appears that the mayor of Paris has failed to convince the French in her own city since she only totals 22,828 votes in Paris, or 2.18%, indicates the Paris City Hall. Even in the popular districts, it does not exceed the 3% mark (2.4% in the 20th, 2.39% in the 18th or 2.26% in the 19th).
This Monday morning, Olivier Faure, the first secretary of the PS, thus recognized “a historic defeat” of his party. “It would be silly not to recognize it”, Olivier Faure said directly, speaking of an “unpublished score” which leads to “tremendous disappointment”. But the secretary of the PS does not intend to “abandon ship” and will continue to lead the fight with his party, to “ensure that, in a few weeks, Emmanuel Macron does not have the means to carry out the policy he intends to lead”. Anne Hidalgo has indeed called for a vote against the far right in the second round by favoring a ballot for the outgoing president.
This Monday morning, Ségolène Royale tackled Yannick Jadot, Fabien Roussel and Anne Hidalgo on twitter :“Jadot Roussel Hidalgo, below 5% call for the dam at MLP? They could do it by the union by withdrawing Shame on them, on their ego.”
