The deputy speaker of the Lithuanian parliament urges public naming of companies that continue to cooperate with Russia

“I believe we have reached a situation where it is necessary to make public the names of companies that are actively continuing to trade,” he told Žiniu radijas news station.

“I think our society and its position on what is happening in Ukraine has matured,” he explained.

Mazuronis expressed confidence that official sanctions against such companies won’t work, citing as an example that companies wanting to trade with China have found ways to bypass Beijing’s 2021 restrictions on Lithuania.

“In the free market zone, as we are, Lithuania as a small country has no opportunity to take any repressive measures to prevent trade with these countries,” he explained.

Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT previously reported that 621 Lithuanian companies exported their products to Russia at the beginning of last year, but only 261 companies did so as of October, while the number of companies exporting to Belarus increased slightly. .

Information gathered by Lithuania’s State Data Agency (formerly the Department of Statistics) shows that the number of companies exporting to Belarus increased from 715 in January to 746 in October.

Information from the State Data Agency shows that Lithuanian exports to Russia reached 856 million euros in the third quarter of last year, compared to 772 million euros in the first quarter. Excluding electricity exports, its value reached 655 million euros in the third quarter compared to 754 million euros in the first three months of the year.

Lithuanian business organizations and some politicians are calling for companies that continue to export to the aggressor country to be publicly named.
