The Deputy Minister of Defense Warns of Enhanced Enemy Disinformation Operations in Ukraine’s Conflict with Russia

The Deputy Minister of Defense stressed that the enemy information and psychological operations on June 7 are working “in an enhanced mode.”

“The myth of the “military power” of the Russian Federation is served by the entire propaganda system of this state. As soon as their army suffers losses and fails at the front, they immediately double the amount of information about their” successes “. Today, there are significantly more such messages. So, the situation is developing vice versa,” Malyar explained.

She warned that pro-Russian Telegram channels are paying special attention to spreading messages about the allegedly effective activities of Russian troops in various directions.

Maliar named the main fake theses of Rospropaganda for June 7: allegedly the Russian army is successfully advancing in Marinka, Donetsk region, and that Russia controls Bakhmut, Donetsk region.

“Allegedly, the RF Armed Forces stopped the offensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” she cited another example of disinformation spread by the Russians.

Context:

The Russian Federation unleashed a war against Ukraine in 2014, when it occupied Crimea and part of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. On February 24, 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine from the northern, eastern and southern directions.

In April, the Ukrainian Defense Forces expelled the invaders from the northern regions of Ukraine, and in the fall they de-occupied part of the Kherson, Mykolaiv and Kharkiv regions.

The most intense fighting is now taking place in the Donbass. Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Anna Malyar said on June 5 that in some areas the Ukrainian defense forces have switched to offensive operations. Ukrainian defenders have some success near Bakhmut, Donetsk region, she said.

The losses of the Russian invaders, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as of June 7, 2023, amounted to about 212,300 military killed, 7,560 armored combat vehicles, 3,873 tanks, 314 aircraft, 299 helicopters and thousands of other equipment. At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine note that the losses of the invaders can be significantly higher than the official figures.
