The departmental archives are getting up to date… Facebook

“Highlighting municipalities or territories that are less talked about”

Already, during the lockdown imposed by Covid, the director of the Archives, Stéphane Capot, who found himself almost alone in the building on Place de Verdun, had imagined sending daily publications on Facebook. “I saw that people were interested in it, and complained about not having any on the weekends…”, he recalls.

The Archives’ collection is also used, as are exhibitions such as the one on the Tour de France or Italian immigration, which allows us to highlight documents that could not be highlighted. “We also used our activities during the Departmental Council’s Summer Nights, where we projected postcards or old photos, charters from the Middle Ages, which allowed us to highlight municipalities or territories that are less talked about, by going to rummage in the Archives’ attic,” adds Stéphane Capot.

We will also tickle the nostalgic fiber of Internet users, for example by showing videos from the Ligue de l’enseignement which filmed the departure of the first holiday camps from Agen, with tearful parents at Place du Pin seeing their offspring leave for the beaches of Landes or Gironde, or gatherings of gymnasts in Fumel.

“We already have a hundred followers, which is not bad since we haven’t advertised at all, but the equivalent page in Gers has a thousand. We hope to do the same, and there will probably be more visits during the Heritage Days at the end of September,” assures Stéphane Capot.
