the Department takes out the checkbook

The social situation of the Moselle firefighters (5,000 professionals and volunteers) is a regular point of tension, forcing Patrick Weiten to regularly scrape together with trade unions. By taking out the checkbook, the president of the departmental council hopes to be able to put an end to these recurring debates.

On Thursday, he had his assembly vote a multi-year agreement with the departmental fire and rescue service for the period 2021-2026. If the contribution of local communities, unchanged for four years, can not increase more than the cost of living index, the remaining charge falls to the Department. And it will gradually increase over six years by nearly 40%, going from € 35 million in 2020 to € 51 million in 2026. The increase will be 15% this year (+ € 5 million), then 6% in 2022 and 2023 and 4% in 2025 and 2026.

Renovate the barracks

“The objective of this agreement is to allow the recruitment of staff, to review the organization of working time and to improve the organization of work”, explained Patrick Weiten. “I hope that the satisfaction of the trade unions will be up to this effort”, hammered the elected, who would like to succeed in extinguishing the union fire.

Even if he remains cautious: “I expect anything. In 2020, I proposed a recruitment plan for 120 people, but the majority of unions refused to accept it while at the same time, Meurthe-et-Moselle signed for twenty hires. »The barracks rehabilitation component is also being studied. “The question arises in Metz, Boulay, Guénange, Maizières, Thionville where the building is no longer suitable and I forget some. We are going to work on a global strategy, ”explains Patrick Weiten.
