▲ On the 16th, the 17th day of Lee Jae-myeong’s hunger strike of the Democratic Party of Korea, floor leader Park Gwang-on and lawmakers are shouting slogans condemning the government before an emergency general meeting of lawmakers at the National Assembly. On the 16th, the Democratic Party of Korea announced that it would immediately submit a proposal to dismiss Prime Minister Han Deok-soo.
The Democratic Party held an emergency general meeting of members at the National Assembly this afternoon to discuss measures for Representative Lee Jae-myung, who entered the 17th day of fasting, and made this decision.
Floor leader Park Gwang-on met with reporters after the emergency general meeting and announced a resolution of five provisions, saying, “All Democratic Party members declare an all-out struggle against the tyranny of the Yoon Seok-yeol regime and the dictatorship of the prosecution.”
Floor Leader Park announced that he had decided to completely reform the government of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, resign from the entire cabinet, immediately submit a proposal to dismiss Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, and immediately begin procedures to implement the Special Prosecutor’s Act to investigate the obstruction of the investigation of the Marine who died in the line of duty by the President’s Office and others and to uncover the truth about the cover-up of the incident.
Meanwhile, Democratic Party lawmakers decided to dissuade Representative Lee Jae-myung from fasting and wait near the National Assembly to prepare for any emergency.
Regarding Rep. Lee’s hunger strike plan, which was the topic of the general meeting on this day, Floor Leader Park said, “All lawmakers requested and resolved to stop fasting through a resolution,” and “I conveyed the resolution of the lawmakers to Representative Lee.”
Spokesperson Lee So-young said, “The reason we adjourned the meeting instead of ending it was to continue persuading and waiting until Representative Lee Jae-myung accepts our request to suspend the fast.” He added, “Until the decision to go to the hospital is made tonight, the lawmakers “We will wait in and around the grounds and do our best,” he said.
In relation to this, Kang Min-guk, senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, said in a comment that day, “The people who heard this news on a weekend evening are just bewildered,” adding, “Is the country in a state of emergency?” He pointed out, “Why did the entire cabinet resign all of a sudden when they asked their party leader to stop fasting?”
Chief Spokesperson Kang said, “The people are asking the Democratic Party and Representative Lee to do some work, but who on earth are they going to join in the national uprising?” He added, “We are already going through hardships due to the representative’s judicial risk, but when the presidential election manipulation case and even the manipulation of statistics were revealed, all of this came to an end. “It’s even pitiful to see them struggling to get away with obvious excuses such as ‘political investigation’ and ‘suppression of the opposition party,’” he said.
