The Democratic Party files a bill on ius soli-scholae, even nursery school is valid

(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 23 – The Democratic Party has submitted a bill to the Chamber on ius soli and ius scholae. The first signatory of the measure, Democratic MP Ouidad Bakkali, announced it to ANSA. It provides for “ius soli, requiring one year of legal residence for one of the two parents” and “ius scholae for children who entered Italy before the age of 12 and who attended school for 5 years”. This calculation “also includes nursery school. Furthermore, in line with the majority of European countries – she adds – the years of continuous residence required are reduced from 10 to 5”. Democratic MP Bakkali, who arrived in Italy at the age of 2, acquired citizenship at 23 under the current rules: “If there had been ius scholae I would have arrived much earlier…”, she comments. Tomorrow in the Chamber a motion of his first signature along these lines should also be discussed. “According to our proposal, contributions for the citizenship application should be donated to the Ministry of Education for civic education projects”, he says again.
