Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Element laborer, civil society and students will join the People’s Labor Movement (Gebrak) which will hold an action rally at the Presidential Palace, Thursday (28/10). The crowd is expected to be more than 1,000 people.
“From Gebrak 1,000 … if civil society and some are members of Gebrak. Well indeed we coordinated (yesterday) with the BEM group there were about 200,” said the General Chairperson of the Congress of the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance (Kasbi) Nining Elitos when contacted CNNIndonesia.com by telephone, Thursday (28/10).
Nining said that the protesters would later gather in front of the US Embassy, Jalan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta. The demonstrators will then conduct a long march to the Merdeka Palace.
Meanwhile, if the police intercepted the crowd in the Horse Statue area, according to Nining, there would be no problem. He said he would comply with the restrictions. He emphasized that the demonstration this time was a peaceful one.
“If there are restrictions, we also don’t force ourselves because we are indeed a peaceful protest. If this is to convey our aspirations, how the objective conditions in the past two years have become increasingly worrying,” said Nining.
According to Nining, so far his party has emphasized peaceful demonstrations. It’s just that when in the field the mass of action became emotional because there were blockades at many points and arrests by the authorities.
“What do we do if (the masses) protest against 1000 people, what do we do, there is nothing like this. We always want peaceful demonstrations,” he said.
Nining hopes that the police will act humanely in guarding the demonstration that will be held today and at any other time. According to Nining, the community hopes that the separation of the TNI and Polri during the reform will make law enforcement officers act humanely, protect, and protect them.
“Not then to scare, threaten let alone do violence,” he said.
