TRIBUNJATENG.COMDEMAK – This year, the Department of Agriculture and Livestock (Dinpertan) of Demak Regency is targeting tens of thousands of cows, buffaloes, goats and sheep to get the Mouth and Foot Disease (PMK) vaccine.
“The target is that in 2023 the PMK vaccine will be administered to 11 thousand head of cattle and buffalo. For goats and sheep there are 22 thousand,” said the Sub-Coordinator of Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health of the Demak Agriculture Office, Sri Padyastuti when met by Tribunjateng, Thursday (9/2/2023).
He said that PMK cases in Demak Regency at the end of 2022 experienced a fairly high spike.
In December 2022, his party noted that there were 895 PMK cases which were spread evenly across 12 sub-districts in Demak Regency.
With so many cases, it is quite difficult for the Demak Agriculture Agency to maximize vaccination, because vaccines are only given to healthy animals.
Given that currently livestock are not only infected with the FMD virus, but there are
juga Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) Virus.
“Because there are many cases, many livestock are sick, the vaccine is given to healthy livestock if they are infected with LSD, the FMD vaccine cannot be administered,” he explained.
Meanwhile, as for the PMK vaccine stock, he continued, he still has quite a lot of PMK vaccine.
With quite a lot of stock, his party chose to use yesterday’s remaining PMK vaccine stock, to be used this year.
“Last year we almost 90 percent exceeded the target, only from yesterday’s drop there were still 400 remaining doses of vaccine that had not been used up, we just carried out the rest yesterday,” he said.
As additional information, for the latest PMK case in Demak Regency, there are at least 13 new PMK cases that have just entered the Demak Regency Agriculture Office.
Even so, PMK cases themselves this year have experienced a decrease in cases compared to the previous year.
