The Delta variant is progressing in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais

As everywhere in France, the Delta variant, previously called the Indian variant, has been progressing rapidly in recent days in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais.

According to figures from Public Health France, stopped on July 1, the Delta variant represents 26.4% of positive tests in Pas-de-Calais, 23.4%, in Nord. Two weeks ago, this percentage was 15% in Pas-de-Calais and only 6% in Nord.

According to the ARS, since mid-May, around ten “mini-clusters” of the Delta variant have been detected throughout the region.. But figures updated in the week could show an increase in these clusters. Last week 9 grouped cases of the variant were detected in Wimereux in the Pas-de-Calais. The inhabitants of the town had also been invited to be tested for a whole day.

No impact on the overall progression of the epidemic

This progression of the Delta variant has not yet no significant impact on the incidence rate (number of positive cases for Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants): it is 16.6 in the North against 22.2 two weeks ago, and 10.7 in Pas-de-Calais against 16.9.

Same in the hospital, or 126 people are in intensive care in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, against 163 two weeks ago.
