The Delta Variant is Called the Mastermind of the Corona Spike in 14 Provinces of China

The Chinese government calls the virus Corona varian delta the mastermind behind the Corona spike in 14 provinces of the country. Health officials blame the delta variant of the so-called highly contagious coronavirus.

As reported by AFP, Saturday (31/7/2021), China reported 328 symptomatic infections in July 2021, almost the same as the total number of local cases from February to June. China blamed the delta variant for the spike in Corona in the country’s 14 provinces.

“The main tension circulating right now is the Delta variant… which poses even greater challenges for virus prevention and control work,” National Health Commission (NHC) spokesman Mi Feng said at a press conference.

The emergence of the Delta variant in China is said to be an obstacle for the country to extinguish the pandemic within its borders after COVID-19 leaked out of Wuhan. The fast-spreading Delta variant is said to have broken out at Nanjing airport in eastern Jiangsu province earlier this month.

More than 260 infections nationwide have been linked to the cluster in Nanjing, where nine cabin cleaners at the international airport tested positive on July 20. Hundreds of thousands have been confined to Jiangsu province, while Nanjing has tested 9.2 million residents twice.

Meanwhile, NHC official He Qinghua said the spike in Corona in China was not only caused by the delta variant. According to him, this rapid transmission is also a combination of the impact of the delta variant with the peak of the tourist season and high passenger circulation at the airport.

Because of this, Jiangsu authorities on Saturday (30/7) suspended all flights in and out of Yangzhou, a city of 4.5 million where 10 new cases were reported on the same day. Public transport services between cities were also suspended, and highway exits in the vicinity were closed.
