An internal presentation slide produced by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasized that “wars have changed” as a result of the emergence of the Delta variant.
This report was first reported by The Washington Post and has been verified by AFP.
CDC Director Rochelle Walenksy cited data from this week’s presentation to justify the reuse of masks for vaccinated people in high-risk areas.

One of the biggest conclusions was the finding that infection breakthrough in vaccinated people is highly contagious, with data coming from previous studies and a new analysis of the outbreak in Provincetown, Massachusetts.
Experts rely on a number called the cycle threshold value (Ct) to indicate how much virus an infected person contains, with a lower number indicating a higher viral load.
“In Provincetown, there is no difference in the mean Ct values in the vaccinated and unvaccinated cases,” said the slide as quoted from Channel News Asia, Saturday (31/7/2021).
On Friday, the CDC published a preliminary report on a superspreading event, in which about three-quarters of people were vaccinated. The outbreak was linked to the celebration of July 4, with the number of people infected last swelled to 900, according to local reports.
