WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.TV – United States health authorities stated that the Delta variant continues to spread and is now the cause of about 83 percent of Covid-19 cases in the United States (US).
This number is a dramatic increase from early July, when the Delta variant was said to account for around 50 percent of Covid-19 cases.
“The best way to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 variant is to prevent the spread of the disease, and vaccination is the most powerful weapon we have,” Dr Rochelle Walensky, director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) told the US parliament in Washington, US. Tuesday (20/7/2021).

Launch The GuardianWalensky said the number of deaths from Covid-19 increased by almost 48 percent in the past week. The average number of deaths is around 239 people per day.
“Each of these deaths is tragic and even more heartbreaking because we know that the majority of these deaths can be prevented with simple, safe and readily available vaccines,” he said.
In the past two weeks, transmission rates across the US have increased by 198 percent. The states that had the highest transmission rates in that period included Oklahoma at 387 percent, Louisiana and Mississippi at 376 percent and 308 percent, respectively.
The national vaccination program slowed down drastically. The US now vaccinates 521,000 doses every day. This figure is down 85 percent from the vaccination peak in April, when about 3.38 million doses of the vaccine were administered daily.

“This is becoming a pandemic for the unvaccinated,” Walensky said last week.
