“The Delta type is menacing”; Italy will tighten restrictions on Covid-19 – Worldwide

From 6 August, Italy will tighten restrictions on Covid-19 by requiring proof of vaccination, illness or a negative test to visit places such as a gym, swimming pool or museum.

The Italian government, which announced the decision on Thursday evening, also announced that the state of emergency would be extended until the end of the year.

Restrictions are being tightened in response to the rapid increase in Covid-19 cases, especially among young people.

“The Delta type is threatening because it is spreading fast,” said Prime Minister Mario Dragi.

Health Minister Roberto Speranca called for people to be vaccinated.

From August, the new rules will also determine how risk areas that are white, yellow, orange or red will be classified. The extent to which Covid-19 wards and intensive care units are filled will be the determining factor instead of the two-week cumulative incidence of Covid-19.

Italian health authorities registered more than 5,050 new cases of Covid-19 infection and 15 new deaths on Thursday.

In Italy, more than 53% of the approximately 60 million people over the age of 12 have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 to date.
