Government Spokesperson for Handling Covid-19 Wiku Adisasmito explained, in principle, viruses are not living things, so viruses can only reproduce in hosts that live like humans. In this self-replicating process, he continued, the virus can mutate to produce new variants.
“Therefore, the best effort that can be done is to avoid the entry of the virus into the body by being disciplined in carrying out health protocols,” said Wiku in an online media briefing, Thursday (29/7/2021).
According to him, the government has implemented various policies to prevent the transmission of the delta plus variant of the corona virus in the community and prevent the importation of cases that could worsen the situation nationally. These policies include the implementation of PPKM, optimization of command posts, and travel arrangements.
“Another effort that needs to be done is to minimize the transmission that occurs by accelerating the implementation of the national vaccination strategy because the chances of new variants forming in people who have been vaccinated are lower than people who have been vaccinated,” said Wiku.
