The Delhi government led by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena have clashed over power subsidies. The power minister for Delhi, Atishi, announced the subsidies will be stopped due to the Lieutenant Governor not yet having approved a file to extend them. However, the Lieutenant Governor’s office disputed this, stating the file had been signed the previous day. The subsidies are given to 46 lakh people in the national capital, and without them, residents will receive inflated bills. The AAP has allocated Rs 3,250 crore for power subsidies in its budget for 2023-24 but is unable to spend it until the Lieutenant Governor approves the subsidy file.
