Ford: The Kerala Blasters’ hopes of winning the ISL in the new year have been dashed. Mumbai City FC topped the points table, beating the Blasters by two goals in the first half. Mumbai topped the table with 19 points from eight matches. The Blasters are ninth with just six points, including one win, three draws and four defeats.
Adam Fontrey scored from the penalty spot in the third minute and Hugo Baumos in the 11th minute. Albino Gomez reduced the Blasters’ lead to a penalty in the second half when Hugo Bomas saved a penalty. The Blasters trailed by two goals in the first ten minutes but then had several chances but failed to convert any of them. Mumbai skipper Amrinder’s smashing saves also came as a shock to the Blasters.

The Blasters scored in the third minute against the second-placed team in the points table. The Blasters were awarded a penalty for dropping Hugo Baumos in the box. But it was clear that there was no penalty clause in the video replays. Fontrai did not miss the kick. The ball bounced between Albino Gomez’s legs and into the net.
The fatigue of conceding a goal is not over. The Blazers conceded the second goal in the 11th minute. This is the fault of the Blasters defense. Baumos ran the ball out of the Jahauh Mumbai box. There was no one to even mark him on defense. The player shook the ball, deceiving the goalkeeper.

Meanwhile, the Blasters got two free kicks from two dangerous positions. But the Blasters could not capitalize on either. In the 28th minute, Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder Singh saved a shot by Wisen Gomez. In the 30th minute, Sahal shot two Mumbai players into the box but Amrinder was Mumbai’s savior. In the 54th minute, Jordan Murray moved the Mumbai net after the Mumbai defense had been deflected by Putia’s kick but the referee ruled offside.

The referee’s penalty whistle sounded again in the 71st minute against the Blasters. The referee awarded a penalty for fouling Boomers in the box by Sandeep Singh. But in the replays, it was clear that Sandeep had tackled the ball. Boumas’ kick was blocked and the Albino Blasters kept their dignity. Shortly afterwards, Vincent Gomez’s shot was deflected by Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder. The Blasters began to lose in the New Year, with Sahal unable to capitalize on the opportunity that followed.
