Democratic Party President Bappilu, Andi Arief, highlighted the statement by the governor of DKI Jakarta, Anies Baswedan, as presidential candidate (candidate) in 2024. Andi assessed that Anies’ statement was not normal.
Andi initially said Anies’ plan to visit the Democratic DPP office was highly anticipated by all Democratic cadres. According to him, Anies’s arrival responded to public expectations that Anies would partner with Democratic Party General Chairman Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in the 2024 presidential election.

However, Andi said there were also many people who doubt that Anies had chosen AHY as a candidate for vice president (cawapres). But according to him it was natural because of the declaration Anies as a presidential candidate, what NasDem did was not normal.
“Many have asked and even doubted that Anies would have chosen AHY as his running mate after the declaration in the Nasdem Party. This is natural, considering that the way Anies’s declaration happened was not normal,” Andi said.
However, Andi said his party would support Anies if the governor, who will retire on October 16, is consistent with his promise to the Democratic Party. He didn’t specify what the promise was.
“As long as Anies is consistent with its promise to the Democratic Party and the coalition in general, the Democratic Party will provide 1,000 times more effort than Anies can provide,” he said.
Also, Andi said at this time Anies it is going through the first phase of the test in order not to renege on its commitment to the Democrats. Andi once again did not specify what the commitment was.
