“We always say that honoring a person should be during his lifetime, and Diego not only represents much for our time, but for the whole country and for all Argentines,” said Council member Cesar Perez, during an interview with EFE.
He added, “On October 17th, we officially declared Diego to be a brilliant resident of La Paternale,” and also declared the neighborhood a “world football capital” in his honor.
Regarding what Diego represented to the people of La Paternale, he said, “As for the neighbors, Maradona, who came to play 150 matches without defeat, was Pelosa or the owner of thick hair, and for his neighbors Diego was the Pepe de Oro or the golden boy, as they call him here, he was a golden neighbor. His presence here is like a very important change. “
And he continued: “He is a very Maradon neighborhood, so Diego’s sisters are neighbors here, and the neighbors always remember him and call him Diego and say that he was a person of integrity and supportive of others. He always thought about the other. There are countless stories from neighbors about him and their great transmission to the young.”
