One step closer to justice. The Pakistani government has ordered the handover to the Italian authorities of Shabbar Abbas, the father of Saman, who died at the age of 18 in Novellara. The news, anticipated by the ‘Gazzetta di Reggio Emilia’, was confirmed to AGI by Mahmood Akhtar, his lawyer. Contacted by telephone in Pakistan, Akhtar reports that “the notice was issued to the accused today”. In July, the district court of Islamabad had expressed a favorable opinion on the extradition of the girl’s father, whose body was searched for months in the province of Reggio Emilia and whose remains were found last autumn in a cottage near her home.
In the trial taking place in Reggio Emilia, Shabbar is accused together with his wife and two other family members. He lacked the opinion of the government which has now arrived. According to the lawyer, there remains a further attempt to appeal against the extradition in a hearing that will take place today before the High Court of Islamabad. A first positive signal had already arrived at the beginning of July, when the Pakistani court gave its opinion in favor of the extradition of Shabbar Abbas.
