The FIA approved Andretti Cadillac’s competition application for F1. Only Formula 1 approval was required.
There will be no competition place for it Andretti Cadillac in Formula 1. At least not for a number of years. Formula 1 has denied the team’s application for a race place on the basis that it “sees no commercial gain in it”.
The International Motor Sport Federationthe FIA, approved the team’s application, with Formula 1 approval required as the final step.
“We could not see any decisive positive effect on the commercial results, which could have indicated a contributing value to the championship,” the statement reads, according to motorf1.com.
Additional factors are that the presence of an eleventh team had marginalized the finances of the existing ten teams, as well as putting Andretti under financial pressure.
In the statement from Formula 1, however, they do not rule out an approval in the future.
“We will probably make a different assessment of a competition application for the 2028 championship with a GM powertrain, either as a GM factory team or a GM customer team, developing what is allowed in-house,” writes the same site.
The F1 legend and The 1978 Formula 1 world champion, Mario Andretti, expressed his disappointment at X: “I’m devastated. I say nothing more as I can find no words except that I am devastated.”
Andretti Cadillac presented a picture of the wind tunnel model on Tuesday and had already started work in front of the now denied starting location.
– We are proud of the work we have already done in developing a competitive car and powertrain with an experienced team behind us, but our work continues, says Andretti Cadillac, according to Autosport.
A competition place will be approved for the 2028 season at the earliest.
