“The result of their offensive was an increase in no-man’s territory, the number of settlements where active hostilities are taking place. But since September last year, the Russians have not managed to occupy a single new settlement here, and they continue to suffer heavy losses in personnel and equipment,” – says the head of the military administration of Ukraine in the Kharkov region Oleg Sinegubov.
The villages on the outskirts of Kupyansk turned into ruins, almost all the inhabitants disappeared, journalists note.
According to Ukrainian commanders, Russia is using Sturm Z penal units on the Kupyansky Front.
According to a Ukrainian commander with the call sign “Phoenix”, some units were so poorly equipped that only one in three soldiers carried a machine gun. Some of the Russian occupiers are motivated by Russian propaganda and are convinced that they are fighting against the United States: one of the recently captured Russians was convinced that he was waging a war against Washington in order to liberate Ukraine from American occupation.
The publication’s journalists add that in Kupyansk itself a semblance of normal life is maintained.
