Jakarta –
Umrah travel scam PT NSWM deceived hundreds of congregations so they were stranded in Saudi Arabia. Some of the victims were completely deceived and failed to leave for the Holy Land because their money was misused by Umrah travel.
Two suspects, Mahfudz Abdullah alias Abi (52) and his wife, Halijah Amin alias Bunda (48), are suspected of having deceived more than 500 Umrah pilgrims. The total loss of the victims is estimated reached IDR 100 billion.
Mahfudz, who is a recidivist, promises a number of benefits by registering Umrah through his travel agent. Most of the victims were traders.
Promise Cash Back-Travel Bonus to Dubai
Kasubdit Harda Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya Kompol Ratna Quratul Aini said that on average the victims were promised IDR 2 million discount for those who can invite nine other congregations.
“Cash back IDR 2 million, those who are able to gather nine congregations and one congregation free. With the lure, the congregation feels more interested in a lower price, cash back, and one free,” Ratna told reporters, Wednesday (29/3).
In addition, the victims were promised tour packages in Dubai for 15 days at a slanted fee. This is what makes the victim tempted to register for Umrah at the travel agent.
“So far those who have been offered Umrah plus tours in Dubai are interested. Rp. 30 to Rp. 38 million, a package with Dubai tours for 15 days,” he said.
