The 50-year-old autopilot Georgi Georgiev-Getzata, who died at the final of the mountain rally in Blagoevgrad on Saturday, drove his favorite number 35.

This was revealed on social networks by his friend and colleague from the Sofia car club “ASK Green Fox Motorsport” Kosyu Yordanov. He started a chat with Georgiev, from which it became clear that the pilot had not competed for a long time and was eager to appear at the start of the rally.

“Kose, I don’t know how it happened, but my favorite number is 35 and that’s exactly what I fell for, I hope I’m lucky,” Georgiev wrote.

The man died on the spot, around 4.30 pm, during the official trainings on Saturday at the Blagoevgrad 2021 Mountain Climbing.

The tragedy took place around 4.30 pm, meters after the final at the beginning of the village of Delvino. The Subaru car turned right and hit a concrete wall on the side of the driver’s seat.

The medical team, firefighters and his friend Kosyu Yordanov, who was trying to help, were immediately on the scene. However, the pilot died on the spot. The reason is probably blocked brakes on the racing “Subaru”. However, it is possible that Georgiev also felt sick in the final and that this was the reason for the accident. On Sunday, all organizers were questioned by police.

Car racers commented that for 6 years they have been telling the organizers to move the final 30-50 meters back. And at the briefing on the day of the race this problem was raised again, but the track, which is 3880 meters, was not shortened.

“The place of the tragedy is part of the race track. Even after the finish there must be a place to stop. I ask why it is not secured with at least three rows of tires, bales of straw? It would not get there,” commented the pilots who identified the deceased. your colleague as an extremely positive and smiling person.

They will launch a fundraising campaign for his child. “I cannot understand and realize why and how a tragedy happened that could have been avoided!” Kosyu Yordanov wrote.

“The security and everything that the pilots are praying for to be done in order to survive should not be neglected. Their lives depend on that, those of the spectators and all the officials at the races. Please, all car races in Bulgaria to be prepared and organized in accordance with the safety requirements of the FIA, so that we enjoy motorsport and not grieve for close friends, “wrote Rumen Dunev. He reminds that for years the competitors have been warning about the unevenness of the final and asking for shortening the length of the track.

The last death in a car race in Bulgaria was in 2017, when the pilot Todor Slavov from Varna lost his life during the Tvarditsa Rally.

We are waiting for a comment from the organizers of the mountain rally.
