“The Debate Over Banning Beta Products and Early Access: Impact on Indie Market and Innovation”

….This should just be banned because this is just a beta product.
Incidentally, beta products and early access should also be banned (for the masses, for testing purposes is another story).

But how do you regulate that and where do you draw that line?
It seems to me quite annoying when you have the best intentions to make a good product and it completely flops and you get a hefty fine and you can declare yourself bankrupt as an indie developer. That will completely ruin the indie market and hinder innovation. I then only foresee triple A publishers who completely exploit existing recipes because they know that it works.

Furthermore, I agree with you that it should absolutely not be allowed that publishers launch a ”finished” game that is full of bugs and that the devs are aware of this. However, I try to be a bit more nuanced here.

Actually, reviews and refunding the game or not buying it at all should be the best method to punish such a party. It’s just a pity that not everyone understands that and keep pre-ordering and putting the game on the shelf if they don’t like it…

Anyway; in my opinion, betas and early access are nice methods to have the game tested and ideal for indie developers to get money in advance and continue to develop the game.
I also enjoy early access titles more than triple A these days, please don’t deprive me of that entertainment.
