The death toll rises as protests over Mahsa Amini’s death expand

Death toll escalation in death protests Mahsa Amini continues to increase Iran. Dozens of lives have been lost due to the issue of veiling women in the Land of the Mullahs.

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, there are official rules governing the way women dress. The enforcement of these rules is entrusted to a police unit known as the Guide Patrol or Gasht-e Ershad or commonly referred to as the “moral police”. They have the authority to detain people deemed “inappropriately dressed”.

Women are required to cover their hair with hijabs and wear long, baggy clothing to cover curves.

One day, it was claimed that Mahsa Amini did not cover her hair perfectly with hijab, so much so that she was seen when she was arrested in Tehran, the capital of Iran, on September 13, 2022. The young woman fell into a coma after being collapsed in detention and died three days later in hospital.

The moral police denied that their members hit Amini in the head with a baton or hit her head in a police car.
