The death toll from Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam rises to 14 – La Página Newspaper – 2024-09-09 01:45:16

At least 14 people have died, one remains missing and 219 have been injured in Vietnam after Typhoon Yagi, the most powerful typhoon recorded this year in Asia and which also left at least 22 dead in China and the Philippines, Vietnamese authorities reported on Sunday.

A landslide in the northern province of Hoa Binh on Saturday buried a house, from which four bodies were recovered and one survivor rescued, the Department for Natural Disasters said in a report. The rest of the fatalities, mostly from falling trees or drowning in floods, occurred in several northern provinces, the agency said.

Yagi, now downgraded to a tropical storm, is near the border between Vietnam, Laos and China, where it is expected to fade later today, according to an update from the Vietnamese Meteorological Agency.
