The Death of the Former Regent Is Allegedly Triggered Chaos in Yahukimo

“The attack occurred in connection with the sad news received by the kimyal tribal community over the death of the former Yahukimo Regent Abock Busup,” said Head of Public Relations of the Papua Police, Kombes Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, in a statement to reporters, Sunday (3/10/2021).

However, it is not yet known what made the residents emotional about the death of the former regent. The police have not yet explained.

The riot began when the Kimyal tribe attacked the Yali tribe in Dekai District, Yahukimo Regency, Sunday (3/10/2021) at 12:45 WIT. Kamal said the kimyal people used 2 minibuses to come to the Yali tribe to attack.

“Where the kimyal tribe, led by General Kimyal Chief Morome Keya Busup, using 2 minibus cars carrying sharp tools in the form of bows and machetes, came to the Yali tribe and carried out attacks,” said Kamal.

The police, who received this information, went to the scene of the incident. The police immediately evacuated the Yali people who were victims of the attack.

“Meanwhile, for the people who are securing themselves at the Yahukimo Police, it is estimated that there are approximately a thousand people consisting of adults and children,” he said.

The police moved quickly to apprehend a number of the alleged perpetrators. A total of 52 people are suspected of being the perpetrators of this riot.

“The Yahukimo Police has managed to secure 52 people who are suspected of being the perpetrators. Currently, the 52 people are under intensive investigation by the investigators of the Yahukimo Police,” he concluded.
