Kathmandu: Pilot Anju Khatiwada also met the fate of a plane crash like the footprints of the fictional snowman Yeti. Like Anju, her first husband Deepak Pokharel, a pilot with Yeti Airlines, also died 16 years ago in a similar plane crash.
The Yeti Airlines flight flown by Deepak crashed on 21 June 2006 at Jumla. 10 people including Deepak died in that disaster.
After Deepak’s death, Anju remarried. He pursued his career as a pilot. Parents live in Biratnagar. She has a 22-year-old daughter from her marriage to Deepak and a 7-year-old son from her second marriage.
As a pilot, he made successful landings at various airports in Nepal. She was on the brink of becoming a captain when the plane she was flying as co-pilot with Captain Kamal KC crashed yesterday. Anju, who was supposed to be felicitated for a new career achievement by successfully landing the Yeti Airlines ATR 72-500 aircraft, is now a memory.
