On Friday night, a one-year-old girl died on the Kekava side while her mother was nearby. The family’s neighbors are convinced that a tragic accident took place because the parents were loving and careful, but the police have found out the facts during the investigation, which indicates the opposite, the program “Degpunkta” reports.
“She was a loving mother who rode with her baby to groups. Went to the playground here in Rāmava, made friends with children, their whole life is fantastically arranged, the child is happy, everything is fine there, ” for the broadcast tells a family acquaintance.
Mom Laura used to work as a teacher in table tennis. Ever since the daughter was born, the woman has been on parental leave. On Thursday morning, they both got into a Kia Ceed family car and disappeared for several hours. Relatives anxiously called the police. The information showed that the woman and the child had disappeared around 10.00. Police forces were mobilized to search for the missing woman with a child. Information was obtained about the woman’s possible locations and her habits. A search of the area found a woman’s car.
Law enforcement officers hurried to the vehicle. Laura was sitting alone. Inspectors noticed that the woman was under the influence of intoxicants and called the doctors who took her to the hospital. The location of the daughter was unknown.
The search for the child continued. About 50 meters further, on the bank of the Daugava, a child’s body was found.
Police launched an investigation and interrogated people to find out under what circumstances the child drowned and what the mother was doing at the time. Meanwhile, the residents of Rāmava village were convinced that an accident had occurred.
“No one has deliberately gone and killed anyone. At the moment, it is a great tragedy for the whole family and for all people. This is Laura’s first child… She is definitely not a killer. Maybe she fell into the water to some depth. Maybe Laura tried to save her, but without success, and maybe at that moment there was a shock, “says an acquaintance.
The old lady from the neighboring house also admits the possibility that Laura was tired and maybe for a moment let the girl out of sight.
On the other hand, the lady, who lives on the bank of the Daugava, near Laura’s favorite place for walks, believes that it could not have been an accident. Contrary to the convictions of many villagers, the police were able to find out details on Friday that show that the girl’s death was not an accident.
As previously reported, the State Police has detained and will ask the court to arrest the mother for the murder of her one-year-old daughter in Kekava.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated in the police for aggravated murder under the section of the Criminal Law on aggravated murder. The law provides for life imprisonment or imprisonment of ten to 20 years for such a crime.
On October 17, the issue of applying a security measure – detention to the said woman – will be decided.
The police are continuing the investigation and explaining in more detail the circumstances of the incident.
Police also confirmed that law enforcement would ask experts to perform a forensic psychiatric and psychological examination of the woman.
