Vasil Petrov, 29, was charged with two rapes of old women and one brutal murder. DNA is the reason the gerontophile was captured after 8 years remained undetected, recalls “Maritsa“.
Vasil is deaf and dumb. He lives with his father, mother and brother in a house in his native village of Parvenets. Everyone knew him and treated him well. Due to his lack of hearing and ability to speak, it was difficult for him to find a job.
Different people from the village gave him different tasks, took him to help them, and then gave him some money and food. Vasil became close to Grandma Diana, who lived on the same street. After her husband died, the young man was her support, doing many things in the household for her.
Vasil loved the old woman and perceived her as his own grandmother. In fact, she raised him as a child, as he spent most of the day with her. The people of the village perceived Vasil as one of the idlers. He was meek, polite, always looking for something to do. He was diligent and finished everything he set out to do.
He was a general worker in the village tire shop, helped in a truck service in Plovdiv, and took other things to make money. It soon became clear that Grandma Diana was suffering from a serious cancer, which began to affect more and more with each passing day. Vasil continued to help her in any way he could, and she thanked him with food.
Everything was fine until the beginning of 2009. Then Vasil changed his behavior. He was extremely attached to the 84-year-old grandmother Diana and no one suspected that he was capable of committing such an atrocity.
On February 18, the young man’s day began normally. He went to Plovdiv to help with the service. He stayed there all day. In the evening you caught the flight to the village of Parvenets. He usually drank a cup of coffee and then went to see if Grandma Diana needed anything.
After turning the cup with the refreshing drink in the center, at 9 pm he headed to the old woman’s house. He went inside and she greeted him with a smile. You were lying in bed watching TV. Suddenly he took off his shoes and lay down next to her. He began to feel her. The 84-year-old woman was shocked by his behavior. She began to ask him what was catching him, shouted for him to leave, and tried to push him away. However, Vasil was determined to finish what he had started.
When he realized that he would not do it voluntarily, he bet on force. He started punching her in the face and head, strangling her with both hands, and then pushing her against the bed frame. Granny Diana resisted with all her might, but failed to push him away. He raped her and continued to punch while having sex.
At one point, the elderly woman stopped pulling, and the forces left her. When he found out that Grandma Diana, who had raised him almost alone, had died, he got out of bed. He looked around and saw that there was blood everywhere from his relentless blows. Then he realized that he had committed murder, got scared and ran home. There he noticed that there was blood on his clothes as well. He took them off and threw them in the trash.
The next day, February 19, Grandma Diana does not go to the nearby grocery store, where she buys a boza pie every morning. This greatly worried the saleswoman, and she informed her grandson, who was named after her. He entered, and a horrifying sight unfolded before his eyes. The old woman lay dead with her clothes torn on the ground, her skull shattered and covered in blood.
Shocked, the grandson immediately notified the police. Only minutes later, uniformed and criminal investigators arrived. The expertise states categorically that the woman’s death was caused in a particularly painful way.
Before she was strangled, the woman was severely beaten and repeatedly raped. The victim had a broken skull, a torn optic nerve and numerous injuries to his face and body, Plovdiv Police Director and Senior Commissioner Hristo Razsolkov told a news conference at the time.
Interrogations of villagers began, witnesses were sought, and the search for a possible perpetrator began. Months pass and the traces cool down. In the end, the police failed to reach the gerontophile killer. Despite the operative-investigative actions and DNA analysis of over 60 persons, the pre-trial proceedings were terminated due to an unknown perpetrator. The case goes into the “cold files” folders. And so for 8 years.
He also ran into Grandma Tina and fell into a trap
At the end of August 2017, the village of Parvenets was shaken by a second rape. It turns out that the perpetrator is again Vasil. He entered the house of 87-year-old grandmother Tina, following the same procedure. He began to touch her, then proceeded to sexual intercourse. He hit and strangled the elderly woman who lived on the ground floor. However, the cries miraculously saved her.
A neighbor heard that something was happening and found the deaf-mute raping the grandmother. He kicked him out, and Vasil spat on his heels. The police were called. Granny Tina told what had happened to her, and so did the neighbor. Whether a description of the abuser was taken as a sample and biological material.
The uniformed men started looking for the man who had committed fornication with the resident of Parvenets. It wasn’t long before the eyes were on Vasil. He was called to the police. There, Grandma Tina recognized him, which was reason enough to put him behind bars.
Meanwhile, however, the DNA of the deaf-mute youth coincided with the biological material of the perpetrator of the old crime – the rape and murder of Grandma Diana from the same village. In addition, investigators have a similar approach. Thus, Vasil was convicted of his actions 8 years ago. However, he confessed only to the second crime.
Prosecutors are charging him and he is facing trial. According to the conclusion of the forensic psychiatric examination, Vasil was able to direct his actions and deeds. He acted with violence and physical aggression without showing sympathy.
12 years in prison for fornication, rape and murder
Magistrates sentenced the 29-year-old deaf-mute Vasil Petrov to 12 years in prison under an initial strict regime for fornication with two elderly women from the village of Parvenets and rape, accompanied by the murder of one of them. This is the general sentence of the gerontophile, after the court sentenced him to 2 years and 8 months in prison for fornication and 12 years for murder, but subsequently imposed a general sentence.
The case against Vasil was heard behind closed doors by an extended five-member panel due to the gravity of the accusation and too intimate details. The police believe that Vasil has committed other fornications, but the victims are silent out of shame. Either way, he is serving his sentence for two fornications.
