The Day Before has had a mixed bag of things in recent months. At the time of its announcement, the game was interesting and exciting, but players gradually stopped liking it, mainly because of the approach of the developers and their strange communication. After several delays, including a dispute over the trademark and the name, we finally got the game, albeit in early access form, but the result is far beyond the expectations of the players. And above all, far beyond the promises of the developers. Even though The Day Before entered early access and is therefore not the final version, it is clear that the developers were not exactly realistic. Or honest to the players.

The Day Before has arrived on Steam December 7th and it definitely didn’t score, even though it was the most anticipated game on the platform until the last moment. At this moment proud extremely negative reviews, with only 19% of over 17,000 reviews being positive. Players complain that the game is not at all what it should have been, although after all it is not a scam and it really exists, which some did not believe. The game takes a bit from The Division, The Last of Us or DayZ, but unfortunately it is not an ideal and well-crafted combination. The developers promised a postapo MMO with a lot of options, which they were tempted to in the past, but the result is just a mindless extraction shooter, and according to the reviewers, it is also very poor. Reviews complain about the content, specifically the small and poorly designed maps, gameplay, animations, movement and shooting, connectivity issues, and a host of other bugs.
What have developers actually been doing all these years?
The developers have already started fixing it, but so far it seems that even the released patches will not satisfy the players. It’s no wonder, according to many, the core of the game itself is bad, meaning that a few modifications and fixes are obviously not enough. The last hotfix focused, for example, on optimizing or modifying the obtained resources and ammunition, but the game would need a significant intervention in the gameplay itself to at least come a little closer to the original promises. Negative reviews a raids of disgruntled players on the game’s official Discord is additionally newly supplemented by one interesting finding. A couple of players and users on Reddit pointed out that the developers used the $300 purchased assets for Unreal Engine, from which almost the entire game was built. “The developers only made the barn, the main hub, and player items,” pointed out user bxbl, joking that the game was supposed to be in development for 5 years. Another pointed out that the inventory probably comes from that too from the same place. Other players also put in the work and some of them put together really impressive ones list of used assetswhich certainly does not reflect well on the developer.
The official Discord is now inactive and negative reviews and feedback are still pouring in from all over. And no wonder. It is not surprising that some players are once again talking about fraud, broken promises and calling the game a scam that seems to have been paid off at the knee in an extremely short time. Although we have already witnessed miraculous redemptions, it will probably not be easy here. It remains to be seen how the developers from the Fntastic studio will deal with it in the coming days, but at the moment The Day Before ranks alongside Gollum, Kong or the new The Walking Dead among the worst games of the year. You can recall the complicated past of the game in our archive.
