The daughter of the Afghan ambassador to Pakistan has been briefly abducted and abused by unknown assailants, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the Afghan government.
Sisila Alihil was returning to her home in Islamabad when she was abducted for several hours and subjected to “severe torture”, the Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement, without giving further details.
“After she was released from the kidnappers, Ms. Alihil received medical care at the hospital,” the foreign ministry added.
The statement called for an investigation into the case and protection for Afghan diplomats.
The Pakistani ambassador to Kabul has been summoned to make a formal complaint, the ministry added.
The Islamabad Foreign Ministry said Alihil was abducted while driving a rental car and police were investigating the “disturbing incident”.
The security of the Afghan ambassador and his family has been strengthened, Pakistani diplomats added.
Pakistani Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted the case to be given the highest priority and the perpetrators caught within 48 hours.
