What calendar for the Champions League? Stopped in mid-March due to the coronavirus epidemic, the European competition has a late fourth round of 16 (Juve-OL, Man City-Real Madrid, Bayern-Chelsea, Barça-Naples). And the quarter-finals, the semi-finals and the final obviously cannot take place on the scheduled dates. The solution envisaged is to play these matches this summer.
The provisional dates to finish the current Champions League are July 22 for the 8th finals return remaining, July 28/29 and August 3/4 for the quarterfinals (outward and return), 11/12 August and August 18/19 for the semi-finals (outward and return) and May 29 for the final.
UEFA also thinks about the rest. Before its executive committee of April 23, it sent to its 55 member federations a provisional calendar of what could be the Champions League in 2020-2021, if the date of August 29 is held for the final of the 2019-2020 season . In the documents sent by UEFA, it is indicated that the group stage begins on 20 October. One month later than in 2019.
An important date is also mentioned for French football: that of the entry barriers for the group phase. These two meetings will take place, in the provisional calendar, on August 15/16 and August 29/30. Or, for the return, the same week as the final of the previous edition.
The final two weeks before the Euro
The Europa League group stage would start the same week as the Champions League. The finals would take place on May 26 for the Europa League in Seville and on May 29 for the Champions League in Saint Petersburg. Just two weeks before the start of the Euro, which was postponed by a year (June 11 to July 11, 2021).
