Alfa Romeo this year will present the production version of the compact crossover Tonale, which was named after a mountain pass in Italy. As reported Motor.es with reference to sources familiar with the situation, the premiere of the car will take place in September. Sales of new items in Europe will start in November 2021. Prices for the model are still unknown.
According to the source, initially, customers will be offered the car in a single Launch Edition, which will be released in limited edition. One of the competitors of the novelty is called the Audi Q3.
The concept of the future crossover was first shown in 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show. The prototype received a number of elements that give a reference to the classic cars of the Italian brand. For example, from the side, the crossover resembles the sports cars Spider Duetto and Disco Volante Spider, and the wheels are made in the style of an old telephone dial – like the Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale of 1966. It is expected that the design of the production version of the novelty will not differ much from the concept of the same name.
It is expected that the production version of the crossover will be built on a shortened version of the Giorgio modular platform, which already underlies the production Stelvio model. According to Motor1, the car will receive a hybrid power plant with a capacity of about 250 horsepower.
Earlier it was reported that Alfa Romeo abandoned plans for the development of new sports cars. In line with the revised development strategy, the Italian brand will launch two new compact crossovers in series in 2022.
