It is a popular genre of internet porn: the so-called verified couples, couples who really do ‘it’ in front of the camera and are therefore not porn actors. One of those couples is the German ‘Youngcouple9598’, consisting of ‘Nico Nice’ and ‘Jamie Young’, at least those are their porn names.
In the documentary Verified Couple, which was shown on NPO 3 on Tuesday evening, they talk about their relationship and their work. That was shocking, but in a different way than you would expect.
Nico and Jamie met when Jamie was 18 years old, and still a virgin, as she will later say. Nico wanted to get rich quickly and when eBay didn’t work out, he convinced Jamie to start recording amateur porn together.
“We first thought: there is so much free porn, we can’t make any money from it,” says Nico. That wasn’t too bad: they already earned 10,000 euros in the first month. They now live in a spacious villa in Cyprus; because of the weather but also because of the favorable tax climate, Nico readily admits.
They want to be millionaires within a year thanks to their income from porn websites and social media plus a paysite on which Jamie attracts viewers under the motto ‘the teen girlfriend you never had’. They also earn money from the sale of Jamie’s worn socks and underwear, plus her paintings with childish scabrous scenes.
The fact that the documentary became increasingly uncomfortable was not due to the frequent nude scenes, but because of the behind-the-scenes glimpses. For example, Nico and Jamie treat themselves to a motivational speech in front of the mirror every morning. Jamie mainly imagines that she is beautiful, Nico that he is strong and powerful. It then turns out that Nico did not seduce Jamie by chance, but thanks to an online course that teaches men pick-up skills.
And just too often there is a scene in the documentary in which Nico tries to push Jamie to do something she doesn’t feel like doing. After much insistence, he settles for that – but how do those disagreements play out once the camera is off?
When Jamie also says that she has lost friends due to her online work, the bleak image emerges of a young woman who is still in love with her demanding boyfriend, but in the meantime leads a lonely and empty existence in a luxurious villa in Cyprus, where she spends every day has sex in front of the camera every day.
