The Dark Novels of Sébastien Raizer: Exploring the Dark Side of Europe and Totalitarian Liberalism

In a few days, the writer Sébastien Raizer, originally from Thionvillois and living in Japan, will conclude his series of dark novels on Europe and in particular Lorraine with the release of Black soils , published by Gallimard. This time again, the story takes place between Thionville and Longwy, a few kilometers from a Luxembourg that the author does not spare.

You write that “the capitalist system is self-destructing and leading humanity to its downfall”.

Sébastien Raizer. “I’m going to let my characters answer every question for me: ‘This system will disappear with oil and the Americans, and it will be the best thing that has ever happened to humanity.’ Unless the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, etc.) perpetuate it… In the meantime, the dominant Western system is prospering so much that it is establishing totalitarian liberalism. Full ownership and commodification of every resource and asset, even water, control of every aspect of life, all for the benefit of the structure itself and its oligarchs. What this toxic system destroys is the individual, it is life itself, nature and culture. And this is precisely where both its delusional, iniquitous and illegitimate prosperity and its inevitable collapse lie. »»

You draw a parallel between multinationals and mafias. For what ?

“The dominant system articulates several forms of power, combining decision and repression, domination and propaganda. There is nothing democratic about its exercise: did you elect Larry Fink at the head of the BlackRock investment fund? Because the heart of real power is them, and Vanguard, and State Street, and dozens of others, with hundreds of subsidiaries that make up opaque galaxies. They control the most powerful multinationals, dictate American and European laws and policies, decide on wars and reward their lackeys, themselves untouchable: Ursula von der Leyen, Christine Lagarde, did you elect them? They work for their exclusive profit, not for humanity. This entire system is a meta-mafia. The most nefarious and devious that has ever seen the light of day. »

Why this clear observation about the United States, which has done nothing but wage war everywhere?

“Just open history books instead of burning your brain with social media. Historically, the United States is the scourge of humanity. »

Has the pandemic really made governments obsolete?

“The management of the pandemic constitutes a step which follows a long list of denials of democracy. It is also an outcome: the total takeover of finance over the West through debt, which definitively enslaves any other form of power (media, politics, citizen, etc.). However, governments have long ceased to make substantive decisions. Jospin already said this in 2002. Politics is nothing more than a diversionary, artificial, disintegrated power, whose mission is coercion and the destruction of state foundations. What we are witnessing is not capitalism, but its terminal phase: totalitarian liberalism. »

“After capitalism? There is no after. Capitalism is a tool. Not an end in itself. »

By Sébastien Raizer, author. Who adds: “The real question is: how do we use capitalism? How are resources and investments managed? To answer this question, you need a goal, you need to identify a horizon and progress towards it. Twenty-five centuries ago, Confucius formulated the only viable answer: the virtue of humanity. There is no other viable prospect.”
