Met Tori and Lokita Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne are participating in the competition for the ninth time. They can be the first ever to win a Golden Palm for the third time, after the one before Rosetta in the child in 1999 and 2005. But let’s face it, the Belgian brothers have long since stopped competing for the marbles. The Cannes premiere is still important to get their film to the cinema (in as many countries as possible). And it’s interesting to see how their films resonate in such a collection of the very best that the great authors in contemporary film have to offer.
