The Danish submarine designer, who cut open the journalist, escaped from prison

Ekstra Bladet was the first Danish tabloid to report on Madsen’s attempt to escape. He published a video on his website, which shows the intervention of the police and a man sitting on the grass with his hands behind his back.

At first, police said on Twitter that they had detained a man while trying to escape from a prison on the outskirts of Copenhagen. But she later confirmed that it was Madsen.

One of the witnesses to the Ekstra Bladet police intervention said that police in the Copenhagen suburb of Albertslund surrounded a white van, opened the door and pulled Madsen out of it. There is a prison in Albertslund where the designer is serving a life sentence.

Madsen was sentenced to life in 2018 for his brutal act, committed aboard a home-made submarine, but he denied guilt for a long time. He only confessed in September when filming a documentary about himself.

The journalist Wall boarded the Nautilus submarine on the evening of August 10, 2017, together with the Danish owner of the vessel. She wanted to write an article about this self-taught designer who was obsessed with conquering the seas and space. At night, however, her guide reported her disappearance. Later, parts of her body were found in the sea.

The following year, Madsen was convicted of murder and given a life sentence. According to the court, he tortured the victim, sexually abused him, murdered him and then cut the dead body and threw it into the sea. At the same time, the designer planned his act in cold blood in advance, the court stated.

Inventor Madsen originally claimed to have landed a journalist ashore from a submarine. He later stated that she had died by accident when a heavy submarine hatch fell on her. Then he changed his statement once more and said that he had inhaled carbon monoxide inside his home-made vessel while he himself was on the outside deck. However, Madsen admitted that he had subsequently decided to get rid of the bodies, cut them open and threw them into the sea. He then intentionally wrecked the submarine.
