On Sunday, August 7, the avant-garde indie rock band Efterklang from Denmark will perform in the Concert Hall “Cēsis” to present their latest album “Windflowers” to the audience in Latvia, which was released last fall. The warm-up artist of the atmospheric Efterklang will be the original and unique domestic musician Evija Weber.
Under the name Efterklang (translated from Danish – echo), there are three Danish guys – childhood friends Kasper Klausen, Mess Kristians Brauer and Rasmus Stolbergs, who formed a group in 2000 in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
The group recorded their debut album Tripper in 2004; dynamic yet minimalist electronics with rich harmonies brought the musicians international fame. Over the years, the group has won a wide circle of fans – thanks not only to the cinematic, wide and exciting compositions, but also to the persistent interest in experimentation and initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive society.
The band’s latest album is named Windflowers in honor of the tiny flowers that bloom in all the forests of Denmark when spring comes. This explosion of color, a symbol of hope and change, disappears as quickly as it came – such is the eternal cycle of nature.
In the new songs, the motifs of hope and change, which are embodied by the simple spring flowers, whose name is given to the album; they are the results of many years of collaboration and experimentation, which have crystallized into some of the trio’s most beautiful and powerful melodies of all time.
In the new album, Kasper sings most of the songs in English. The sound is bright and intimate at the same time – these are three friends who rediscover each other at a time when the world around them seems so unstable. The album tells about existence – alone, together and in nature. It’s about reconnecting and how friends allow each other to grow.
At the concert in Cēsis before Efterklang, we will see and hear Evija Weber on stage – an artist who experiments with various electronic and acoustic sounds, creating sometimes dreamy, sometimes anxious compositions. At the moment, she is very much in love with modular synthesizers, and we will hear them already in the course of the evening. Someone once said that the most unique instrument and jewel is Evia’s voice, which is extremely rare – she sounds like a small and fragile girl, but ready to explore the world.
