We love parfum and spray all year round with our favorite scents, including in the summer. A nice smell can therefore not be missing in the suitcase to a sun destination. But did you know that it’s actually not such a good idea to wear perfume in the sun? We explain why.
Be careful with perfume
Nothing is nicer than the sun shining nicely. The sun also has a positive effect on our mood and provides the necessary vitamin D. But unfortunately it does not only have benefits. You have to be careful with the products you use when you go into the sun. Perfume can cause you to become more susceptible. And we’re not just talking about the nice smell that you spray from a bottle. No, perfume is also in many creams, foundation and many other products. Why should you avoid perfume when you go out in the sun? It can cause certain irritation or an allergic reaction, which is further enhanced in combination with sunlight. This way you can suffer from spots or skin discoloration. However, such a reaction is not always immediately visible, but can also develop in the long term.
Various irritations
There are four different types of irritation you can get when your skin reacts to perfume in the sun:
Irritation: the substance damages the skin directly. Allergic reaction: the immune system reacts hypersensitively to a certain substance. Photoxic reaction: the skin is damaged because the substance on the skin reacts with sunlight. Sun allergy: the skin reacts violently to normal exposure to the sun, this allergy is independent of the products you use.
The solution
Good to know what perfume in combination with the sun can do. Butre, we would also like to know what we can do when it is already too late and we suffer from irritations. For example, spray your perfume on your clothes, instead of directly on the skin. You can also put Vaseline on the skin and apply perfume on it. In addition, the scent lasts much longer – win, win!
