Nutrition experts have warned against using partially hydrogenated oils, known as trans fats, in food preparation, after the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) finally decided to ban them on the market.
Trans fats cause cardiovascular disease and systemic inflammation that may lead to the formation of blood clots. They also contribute to insulin resistance, which increases the risk of type 2 diabetes.
The harmful effects of these fats on human health include breast cancer, colorectal cancer, preeclampsia, fetal deformities, high blood pressure, and the occurrence of allergic conditions such as asthma and eczema.
