VIVA Lifestyle – Betta (Hickey) or the act of sucking on your partner’s neck during sex, causing red marks, actually has dangers that are rarely known.

You may be skeptical about the risks behind hickeys, but they are real.

Quoting the report The Sun Friday, September 8 2023, a young man from Mexico suffered a stroke and died due to a hickey. Initially the young man was having dinner with his family, then he went with his girlfriend and gave a hickey on his neck.

Not long after that, the young man experienced a seizure. The team of doctors said that hickeys cause blood that should flow to the brain to clot, triggering a stroke.

However, you don’t need to worry about hickeys when having intercourse with your partner. The reason is that if done properly, hickeys are still relatively safe.

Stroke neurologist Dr. Max Gomez said that hickeys can kill someone, but this rarely happens. According to him, this activity can be dangerous if applied aggressively to the neck.

Mild stroke

Apart from the stroke that led to death experienced by a young man from Mexico, hickeys can also cause mild strokes. In the report India Times, this was experienced by a woman from New Zealand after she was betrayed by her lover. As a result, the woman’s legs were paralyzed.

After arriving at the hospital, the doctor concluded that the woman had suffered a mild stroke. At first the medical team was confused about finding the cause of the stroke, until finally they found a red bruise on the neck near a large artery.

As a result of the bruise, the blood clot moved to the heart, causing a mild stroke and partial paralysis. Luckily, the patient was able to recover after being given medication to prevent blood clots, an anti-coagulant.

Mouth harpies

Quoting the report WebMD Apart from causing strokes, hickeys also have the potential to transmit harpes. This disease is caused by a virus Herpes Simplex which can trigger symptoms such as canker sores on the lips, gums, tongue, roof of the mouth and inner cheeks.

Oral herpes is transmitted through contact with saliva and mucous membranes or skin. If you feel symptoms of this disease, immediately consult a doctor.

Meanwhile, the symptoms of oral herpes will cause sores in the mouth area which gives a burning, tingling, itching sensation.

To prevent this, make sure that before having sex, you and your partner have cleaned yourselves with soap first.
