Most people, mainly women, straighten their hair on a daily basis. But a study in the United States warns about the danger that certain products that can be used to facilitate hair ironing may have, as published in the ‘Journal of the National Cancer Institute’ since they can cause cancer.
The study carried out in the United States in 2021 yielded alarming figures. 33,497 US women ages 35 to 74 participated in the study led by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences that sought to identify risk factors for breast cancer and other medical problems. These women were followed up for almost 11 years, during which time 378 cases of uterine cancer were diagnosed.
Uterine cancer accounts for about 3% of all new cancer cases. It is the most common cancer of the female reproductive system with an estimated 65,950 new cases in the year 2022.
Despite this, the Spanish Medical Oncology Organization and the UK Cancer Research Center consider that there is no clear evidence or solid evidence.
But now more than 100 lawsuits have been filed in the US against the companies that make some of these straighteners. “No more bleach” is the motto of the campaign with which it tries to fight against the use of this type of substance in hairdressers around the world that contain certain , although there are centers, also in Spain, that are committed to remedies with more natural products to try to straighten hair.
