The delicacy could lead to serious illnesses.
The shortage of goods in the USSR led to the emergence of very unusual products. For example, many children were delighted with the so-called “soldier’s salt” – burnt sulfur from the most ordinary matches. They ate it, and the taste was like ordinary table salt, but with specific flavors.
Over time, it became known that the delicacy can cause very serious harm to the body.
The fact is that it contains red lead. And its constant use can cause toxic poisoning, which is accompanied by changes in the nervous system and blood. And the consequences, according to scientists, appear even with its minimal intake.
The situation changed only with the advent of the 90s. Products from other countries began to appear in stores, so the children gave up their favorite “soldier’s salt” and thus saved themselves from severe poisoning.
