The Dangers of Driving Without Insurance: Why It’s a Terrible Idea

Driving without insurance is tempting more and more motorists. This is one of the worst ideas though!

The French are increasingly subject to inflation and increasing costs, fixed or not. But the first are unfortunately, by definition, incompressible.

This is the case with insurance, particularly for cars, but more and more French people are thinking of doing without it… and that’s a very bad idea.

Too many !

In recent years, financial pressures, particularly on motorists, have become increasingly accentuated. Car prices are explodingmotorway prices are increasing and managers want to increase them again soon, gasoline is no longer coming down, maintenance costs are soaring, as are insurance costs.

So the French are legitimately trying to save money to survive in these complicated times. This is how more and more French are considering doing without this insurance auto.

We already talked about it last year and the figures are increasingly worrying. Thus, according to a study carried out by the Poll & Roll platform for the insurer Leocare, 69% judge the prices exaggerated car insurance.

Worse, they are 28% of respondents who say they are ready to driving illegally. This is 1% more than in 2022 and shows a trend going in the wrong direction. If among CSP+ it is still 26% who say they are ready to do without it, in Île de France, it is outright 39% of respondents ready to take this risk.

It must be said that in addition to inflation, which works against lower prices among insurers, modern cars, particularly electric cars, cost significantly more to repair. In factinsurance premiums become more expensive for everyone.

Essential insurance

« Skipping your car insurance is a very bad idea. Such a choice in fact exposes many risks, both from a criminal and financial point of view. », declares Christophe Dandois, co-founder of Leocare.

If the cost of insurance, which very often represents au minimum 400 € per year and per car, may seem like a feasible saving, it is a risky and very short-term vision. What you save in the moment can turn into a monumental loss.

This choice has already been made by almost 800,000 motorists and bikersaccording to the national interministerial road safety observatory (ONISR), which take a big risk for everyone.

Without insurance and therefore illegally, hit-and-run becomes an option that is too easily conceivable. Hitting a pedestrian, a 2-wheeler or another motorist can seriously injure them and fleeing is a decision that can put the life of the affected user at risk.

Furthermore, if the Compulsory Insurance Guarantee Fund will cover the costs accident, he only does it to ensure that the victim is taken care of in the best conditions.

This Fund is not there to cover you because you refused to do so and will then turn against you to demand recovery of the sums invested and this can be counted in hundreds of thousands of euros.

Without going to such extreme cases, driving without insurance is punishable bya fine of €3,750to which can be added a cancellation of the license with a ban on retaking the exam.
